NLC, TUC members block entrance to govt offices in Lagos

 

iexclusive News Nigeria reports that Members ofp the NLC and TUC, Wednesday blocked the entrance into government offices in Lagos.

 

As they protested against the move by the National Assembly to remove minimum wage from the Exclusive Legislative List to Concurrent Legislative List.

The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s office was blocked during the protest.

 

It was gathered that the demonstration caused traffic congestion around Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja, Allen Junction, Ogba, and Agindingbi among others.

 

This online news medium had reported that members of the unions residing in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, earlier stormed the National Assembly Complex demanding reversal of the legislative action.

 

The bill to remove the minimum wage from the Exclusive List to Concurrent List was sponsored by Garba Datti Mohammed of Sabon Gari Federal Constituency, Kaduna State, and has passed the first and second reading in the House of Representatives.

 

While explaining the bill at the lower chamber, the sponsor, Garba, said that the move was to allow both the federal and state governments to freely negotiate minimum wage “with their workers in line with our federalism.”
