Wike:  APC Lied,  Duped Nigerians Via Social Media, Now Wants To Ban It

Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers state, has slammed President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress for plotting to silence Nigerians after using social media to deceive and acquire power.

iexclusive News Nigeria report that On June 4, the Buhari administration announced a ban on Twitter, denying citizens access to the microblogging service.

Mr Buhari’s tweet, in which he warned a repeat of the civil war slaughter in South-East Nigeria, was deleted.

On Friday, his publicist Kelvin Ebiri issued a statement that Mr Wike believes it is ironic that the APC is planning to ban social media after lying to steal power from the PDP and former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015.

“You have deceived the nation. You used social media to spread misinformation to us. Mr Wike stated.”

The same social media that you exploited to take over government, you now want to regulate and restrict.”

He went on to say that the APC’s and Mr Buhari’s plot to ban Twitter is an attempt to silence Nigerians and an attack on their right to free speech.

Mr Wike added, “You utilized the same social media to feed Nigerians misinformation about how previous President Goodluck Jonathan did not do this, how the PDP did not do that.”

“Now you want to regulate the same social media. You don’t care about freedom of expression. now want to suffocate them. “Did they gag you while you were using them?”
