More than 41,000 people signed petitions against Jeff Bezos’ re-entry into the Earth

 

More than 41,000 individuals have signed petitions opposing Jeff Bezos‘ return to Earth after his space launch next month.

iexclusive News Nigeria reports that Jeff Bezos, the founder of Blue Origin, said on June 7 that he and his brother Mark will go into space on July 20 on the New Shepard rocket, marking the company’s first human voyage.

Two petitions were started three days following Bezos’ statement to try to stop the billionaire from returning to Earth. In just ten days, they’ve amassed thousands of followers.

A Change.org petition titled “Do not allow Jeff Bezos to return to Earth” has received more than 23,000 signatures.

“Billionaires should not exist…on earth or in space,” the petition stated, “but if they choose the latter, they should stay there.”

Some signatories explained why they signed the petition, saying things like “being allowed back into Earth is a luxury – not a right” and “Earth don’t want people like Jeff, Bill [Gates], Elon [Musk], and other such billionaires.”

Another petition, titled “Petition To Not Allow Jeff Bezos Re-Entry To Earth,” has over 18,000 signatures and is growing rapidly.

The petition’s creator, Jose Ortiz, described Bezos as “a demonic overlord hellbent on global dominance” in the description.

Ortiz also stated, “The fate of humanity is in your hands.”

According to Change.org, both petitions are aiming for 25,000 signatures, making them two of the most popularly signed petitions.

Bezos and his brother, the winner of the $28 million Blue Origin auction for a ticket in the New Shepard spaceship, will take an 11-minute ride to the edge of space. 

They’ll be strapped into a dome-shaped capsule that will sit atop the booster rocket.

When New Shepard hits the Krmn line, an imaginary boundary 62 miles (100 kilometers) above the Earth’s surface, the capsule will detach from the rocket, reenter the atmosphere, and glide back to Earth using parachutes.

“I’d like to take this flight since it’s something I’ve always wanted to do. It’s an adventure for me, and it’s a significant deal ” 

In a video broadcast on Instagram on June 7, Bezos remarked.
