The Robert Edwards Foundation Lauches In Lagos, Nigeria.

Akin Emmanuel Abayomi, a Nigerian professor who specializes in internal medicine, haematology, environmental health, and biobanking and currently serves as the Lagos State Commissioner for Health, was the distinguished guest at the Robert Edwards Foundation’s inaugural edition and launch in Lagos on Thursday, June 24th, 2021.

The foundation’s theme is “Saving Hearts,” in honor of Robert Oritseweyinmi Edwards, a well-known entrepreneur and philanthropist who died suddenly and unexpectedly on the day he turned 48 on the 3rd of June 2014, after suffering a cardiac arrest in Lagos, Nigeria, he died due to a lack of proper care.

Iexclusive News Nigeria reports that the first lecture of the Robert Edwards Foundation focused on the theme “Saving Hearts” as part of the foundation’s objective to “Prevent Sudden Cardiac Death” (SCD) through awareness, education, and action.

Dr. Tosin Majekodunmi, an interventional cardiologist and the chief medical director of Eurocare Multi Specialist Hospital, and Dr. Tobi Keeney, a natural health and wellness practitioner, were among the presenters at the event. Mrs Chizor Malize, the MD/CEO of FITC Nigeria, hosted the event.

“Sudden cardiac Arrest (SCA) is the abrupt loss of heart function, breathing, and consciousness,” says Mrs. Adenrele Edwards, the foundation’s host and founder. A issue with your heart’s electrical system causes the disorder, which affects your heart’s pumping action and stops blood flow to your body.

A heart attack, in which blood flow to a portion of the heart is interrupted, is not the same as sudden cardiac arrest. A heart attack, on the other hand, can sometimes cause an electrical disruption that results in abrupt cardiac arrest.”

‘Having and using an automated external defibrillator (AED) with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) during the first three minutes of a sudden cardiac arrest can raise an individual’s chances of life by up to 75 percent,’ she went on to say. It only takes a little planning and practice. There have been innumerable other preventable tragedies after Robert’s death, just because people lack understanding and don’t know what to do.”

Mrs. Adenrele Edwards, the foundation’s creator, spoke during the occasion about the foundation’s objective and why it was founded, saying, “Our mission at the Robert Edwards Foundation is to generate awareness and instruction on how to conduct basic CPR and distribute AED’s to places such as Bars, malls, nightclubs, and event centers which are examples of areas where people would generally gather to socialize.”
