Kaduna State College of Education Student Shot Dead For Protesting Tuition Hike

Kaduna State College of Education student shot dead for protesting tuition hike

Kaduna State College of Education student in Gidan Waya, Kaduna State’s Jema’a Local Government Area, has been killed.

iexclusive News Nigeria reports that the deceased had joined his colleagues in protesting the increase in school fees when security operatives attempted to disperse them violently.

One of the protesters, who preferred anonymity, told Daily Trust that they came out to protest the increase in school fees at the state-owned institution but were met by security operatives outside the college.

This online news medium also learnt that one student, Emmanuel Nata, was shot and is currently receiving treatment.

Sunday Asefon, National President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), confirmed the tragedy to our correspondent during a news conference.

He claimed he heard two students were killed and another was shot during the protest.

He bemoaned the fact that the state administration did not examine the country’s current economic reality before raising tuition.

The student stated that they found it exceedingly difficult to manage with prior school fees ranging from N25,000 to N33,000 and are concerned about what will happen with the current increase of N75,000.
