Nnamdi Kanu Was Not Arrested In The UK – British Government

 

According to the British High Commission, Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), was not arrested in the United Kingdom.

 

iexclusive News Nigeria reports that According to the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, the fugitive leader of the proscribed organisation was apprehended on Sunday.

 

Malami stated that Kanu was apprehended thanks to the combined efforts of Nigerian intelligence and security forces.

 

He did not, however, provide any specifics about the operation or indicate where Kanu was apprehended.

 

Because the IPOB leader was known to have stayed in the UK after fleeing Nigeria, many assumed he was captured there.

 

Kanu is a dual citizen of the United Kingdom and Nigeria.

 

However, Dean Hurlock, a British High Commission spokeswoman, told TheCable that Kanu was not apprehended in the UK.

 

“We can affirm that Nnamdi Kanu was not arrested in the UK for extradition purposes,” he was reported as saying by the online daily.

 

After Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja ordered Kanu’s arrest till July 26, 2021, the IPOB leader informed the court that he went underground since his house was raided but he was able to escape.

 

Kanu stated that if he had not escaped, he would have been killed along with the other members of the group.

 

Kanu was granted bail on medical grounds by Nyako in 2017.

 

While on bail, the judge restricted the IPOB leader from giving press interviews.

 

The judge also issued a strong warning to the defendant not to attend any rallies or be spotted in a throng of more than ten people.

 

Kanu, on the other hand, violated all of the bail terms and eventually left abroad.
