Edo govt revokes road project, after viral video, order contractor’s arrest

The Lawani Crescent Federal Constituency road project in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area has been halted by the Edo State Government.

iexclusive News Nigeria reports that a citizen’s viral video revealed the poorly completed project. His allegation prompted officials to be chastised on social media.

Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu conducted an inspection of the site on Tuesday and stated that the contract had been terminated.

According to the administration, it falls short of the standard that has been maintained throughout the state..

“We urge residents to take control of all government properties in their area,” stated a Facebook statement.

The road contractor will be arrested and turned over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) (ICPC).

According to the government, the National Assembly has earmarked N360 million for constituency development in the Akoko-Edo federal district in 2021.

The administration of Governor Godwin Obaseki has promised to conduct an investigation “to guarantee we get good value for money.”
