1. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) says it has detected a confirmed case of the SARS-CoV-2 Delta variant in the country. The agency in a statement on Thursday night said the variant also known as lineage B.1.617.2 was detected in a traveler who came to Nigeria.

 

2. The Presidency on Thursday said that President Muhammadu Buhari is not responsible for promotion in the Nigeria Police Force, NPF. Garba Shehu, the presidential spokesman, disclosed this shortly after the Police Service Commission (PSC) promoted 24 Commissioners of Police to the rank of the Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIG), among others.

 

3. The umbrella body of Ndigbo in the Diaspora, Igbo World Assembly, IWA, has declared that there must be a serious dialogue among all the ethnic nationalities for Nigeria to continue its existence. The organization also cautioned the Buhari government against the use of force to stop ethnic nationalities from agitating for secession

 

4. A bill seeking to give states the power to declare public holidays passed the second reading at the House of Representatives yesterday. Sponsored by Mukhtar Zakari Chawai, it is titled ‘A Bill for an Act to alter the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) to transfer the item dealing with Public Holidays from the Exclusive Legislative List to the Concurrent Legislative List, and for Related Matters (HB. 1163).

 

10. Imo State House of Assembly was thrown into a rowdy session yesterday following the suspension of six members for what was termed “unparliamentary conduct.” The Speaker, Paul Emeziam, who presided over the plenary, ordered the immediate suspension of the six members for unparliamentary conduct, leading to chaos in the house.
