15-Year-Old Girl Commits Suicide Over Poor Exam Results

Iexclusive News Nigeria reports that a 15-year-old girl who sat her PLEs at Bwikya Muslim Primary School in Hoima City, western Uganda, last year committed suicide after supposedly performing poorly.

Daphine Kimuli vanished from her house three days after the Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) issued last year’s PLE results on July 16, 2021, in which she scored an aggregate of 25.

Her family’s search for her was fruitless. Her body, however, was discovered hanging from a jackfruit tree near her home in Bwikya ward, Hoima East division, by a 35-year-old neighbor on Wednesday, July 21, according to Mr Julius Hakiza, Albertine regional police spokesperson.

The event was reported to Kinuubi police station, which dispatched scene of crime officers as well as the homicide team to investigate.

The scene was photographed and postmortem has been done,” Mr Hakiza told Daily Monitor UG

Mr Hakiza claimed Kimuli wrote a suicide note in which she named a number of people she considered to be her enemies.

She also claimed that there were people laughing at her for performing poorly in PLE,” Mr Hakiza said.

The dead, according to police, counseled her fellow children and relatives not to commit suicide.

Kimuli wrote in the note that she had decided to leave her alleged adversaries “to enjoy their world as she was going somewhere else.”

Two people have been arrested in order to assist with the investigation. One of the suspects was allegedly discovered with Kimuli’s note, which she kept without alerting the girl’s family and only revealed after her death. Kimuli, she claimed, had given her the note.

One of the people named as Kimuli’s “enemies” in the note is the other suspect. The accused are being held at the central police station in Hoima.

Mr Francis Bagonza, the school’s head teacher, described Kimuli as a quiet and well-behaved student.
