How Buratai Failed To Extradite Sunday Igboho To Nigeria-Falana

The Benin Republic told Tukur Buratai, Nigeria’s ambassador to the nation, that they will respect the rule of law in the extradition of Yoruba Nation agitator Sunday Adeyemo, aka Sunday Igboho, according to human rights lawyer Femi Falana.

iexclusive News Nigeria had reported that Igboho is now detained in the Benin Republic after being apprehended in Cotonou on July 19 while attempting to flee to Germany.

The allegations leveled against the agitator include arms trafficking, incitement to violence, and calls for the Yoruba race to secede from Nigeria.

Falana, speaking on Channels Television on Thursday, claimed Buratai, a former chief of army staff, had requested that Igboho be turned over to him.

“In the instance of Sunday Igboho, despite my disagreement with him, I came out and said that you can’t just toss him into a waiting jet as we were informed, that it was tried.

“You must appear in court. You must make an extradition request under international law, namely the ECOWAS Extradition Convention.

“The government of Nigeria has been asked to file an extradition request to the government of the Benin Republic, and so when the plenipotentiary, General Yusuf Buratai (retired), who had not yet presented his letters of credence, requested that Igboho be turned over to him.

“Sorry, we follow the rule of law here,” he was told.

That is why the case is still pending in court,” Falana explained.
