Uganda Receives 1st Batch Of Evacuees From Afghanistan

According to Uganda’s Foreign Affairs Ministry, the first group of Afghan evacuees landed in the nation on Wednesday morning.

iexclusive News Nigeria reports that the first group of Afghan refugees landed in Uganda on Wednesday morning, according to a statement from Uganda’s Foreign Affairs Ministry.

On a privately chartered flight, 51 evacuees, including men, women, and children, landed at Entebbe International Airport before being led by local police to a hotel in Entebbe, 40 kilometers south of the capital Kampala.

Uganda will temporarily house at-risk Afghans and other nationalities “en route to the United States and other locations worldwide” after receiving a request from the US, according to the ministry.

The refugees had to go through security screening, Coronavirus testing, and quarantine protocols, according to the report.

According to the government, some Ugandans in Afghanistan were unable to board the aircraft owing to “challenges of reaching the airport in Kabul,” but “arrangements are being made to transport them on the following trip.”

Uganda said last week that it will take in 2,000 Afghans and other citizens escaping the Taliban’s takeover of Kabul.
