Jos Crisis: ‘Attack’ On Luxurious Buses Fake News – Lalong

Simon Bako Lalong, the Plateau State Governor, has disputed media reports that two expensive buses were set on fire in Jos.

iexclusive News Nigeria reports that the social media posts with the title “Plateau crises and genocide worsens as 2 sumptuous buses transporting Igbos down East were set on fire with 156 passengers inside” have gone viral.

Following the recent massacre of more than 30 members of the Anaguta ethnic community in Yelwa Zangam, Jos North, our correspondent claims that inciting videos and messages are being disseminated around the state.

This online news outlet reports that as a result, the administration recommended the public to disregard the news, claiming that it was false and that no such incident had occurred.

The claim “is solely the creation of crises merchants mischief-makers who wish to generate panic and incite violence and fear among the people,” Lalong said in a statement issued by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Dr. Makut Simon Macham.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the security situation in Plateau State is under control, with security forces deployed to all sections of Jos to enforce the 24-hour curfew that is still in effect, as well as to ensure compliance with the twilight to dawn curfew in Jos South and Bassa LGAs,” he added.

iexclusive News Nigeria reports that according to Macham, the governor has directed security agencies to track down and apprehend those who spread false information with the intent of causing panic and crisis, and has advised citizens to refrain from sharing such false information because it could result in negative consequences for innocent people.
