On Thursday, the Military High Command said that it had handed over 565 Boko Haram militants to the Borno State Government.

iexclusive News Nigeria reports that the terrorists were released to the government for further management, according to Brig.-Gen. Benard Onyeuko, acting director, Defence Media Operations, who made the announcement while speaking to journalists at Defence Headquarters in Abuja.

They are made up of three leaders, five livestock rustlers, and their families, according to him.

This online news outlet gathered that between August 12 and September 1, more than 5,890 terrorists.

Including foot soldiers and their commanders, surrendered to Operation HADIN KAI troops in the North East, according to Onyeuko.

“During the period under review, forces from Operation Hadin Kai continued to fight terrorists in the North East theater,” he stated.

Terrorists were forced to surrender in huge numbers as a result of the army’ counter-insurgency measures, which included both kinetic and non-kinetic operations.

“Suffice to note that, within the last few weeks, more than 5,890 terrorists comprising foot soldiers and their commanders have surrendered with their families to our own troops in the North East Zone.

“A total of 565 BHT’s comprising 3 Commanders, 4 Amirs, 5 Nakibs and 5 cattle rustling specialists, out of the surrendered BHTs and their family members were handed over to the Borno State Government in Maiduguri for further management after thorough profiling.”

From the surrendered terrorists, a total of 52 assorted weapons and 1,977 rounds of 7.62mm assorted calibre ammunition were recovered, including AK-47 and FN rifles with magazines, hand grenades, commando mortar guns, locally fabricated rifles, Dushka anti-aircraft guns, Dane guns, and Nigerian Police rifles, among other things.

Seven terrorists’ collaborators and informants, as well as their logistics suppliers, were apprehended, according to him, and handed over to competent prosecuting agencies for further action.
