DSS Reacts On Court Judgment Ordering Payment Of 20bn To Igboho

 

Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho, a self-proclaimed Yoruba Nation activist, was ordered by a court to pay N20 billion to the Department of State Services (DSS), according to a statement released on Friday.

 

iexclusive News Nigeria reports that the ruling was issued by Justice Ladiran Akintola of the Oyo State High Court in a complaint filed by Igboho’s counsel, Yomi Aliu, SAN.

 

This online news outlet learnt that Aliu had gone to court on July 1, 2021, to contest a DSS raid on his home in the Soka district of Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.

 

Igboho had sought the court to order the defendants to pay him a total of 500 million in special damages for the damage to his residence and automobile. 

 

Another 500 billion in exemplary and aggravated damages for the criminal invasion’s violation of his fundamental rights.

 

iexclusive News Nigeria reports that he also asked for an order requiring the Federal Government and the other defendants to issue a public apology in two national dailies.  

 

Return all items confiscated from the property, including “N2 million in cash, a thousand Euros, and travel documents, among other things.”

 

When asked about the DSS’s reaction to the court order, Peter Afunanya, a spokesman for the service, told Daily Trust that the court may not have informed the secret police.

 

“The court may not have told us,” he remarked. So, my official response is that I have nothing to say.”

 

Except for two people charged with terrorism, some of Igboho’s aides who were arrested during the raid have been released.
