Pandora Papers: Oyetola Opens up On UK Property Scandal
Mr Adegboyega Oyetola, the Governor of Osun State, has denied his alleged involvement in a property scam in London, United Kingdom.
iexclusive News Nigeria reports that Saturday, Oyetola’s Chief Press Secretary, Ismail Omipida, issued a statement describing the report linking him to the property acquisition as “unfounded and incorrect.”
He said that when he was appointed as the Chief of Staff to the then-Osun Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, in 2011, he resigned from the firm, ‘Aranda Overseas Corporation,’ which was reportedly used to buy the property.
This online news outlet gathered that the Governor further stated that he had no contact with Kola Aluko, the claimed owner of the land, and that he had no business dealings with him.
Oyetola claimed that he had not infringed any laws because, upon his appointment in 2011, he relinquished his Directorship of Global Investments Offshore Limited.
“We have seen headlines in several online media channels concerning the PANDORA PAPERS‘ allegations,” the statement reads.
As a result, this is to correct the record.
“In 2011, when he took up a political job, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola, Governor of Osun State, quit his directorship of Aranda Overseas Corporation. He also gave up his stake in the same corporation.
“As a result, he could not have purchased the home in 2017, either directly or through the corporation, as claimed.
“In truth, Oyetola has no tie or connection with Mr Kolawole Aluko, the supposed owner of the property, let alone engage in a business transaction with him.”
When he was appointed as the Chief of Staff to the immediate past governor of Osun, Rauf Aregbesola, in 2011, he exited Global Investments Offshore Limited as a Director in complete compliance with the law of the land.
“While we appreciate the concern shown by family members, friends, associates, and well-wishers, we tell them that there is nothing to be concerned about.”
“In his corporate and political endeavors, Mr. Oyetola has always demonstrated that he is a man who understands and respects the law. “We shall never be abandoned by the God who has carried us this far.”
