Why DSS Releases Chiwetalu Agu

According to Iexclusivenews Nigeria, human rights lawyer Mike Ozekhome, SAN, has disclosed why Nollywood legend Chiwetalu Agu was released by the Department of State Services (DSS).

Chiwetalu Agu was released, according to Ozekhome, after they searched his phones and discovered nothing incriminating.

The 65-year-old actor was originally apprehended by the Nigerian Army last Thursday in Onitsha, Anambra State, for donning Biafra regalia.

Soldiers apprehended him while carrying out a charity exercise near Upper Iweka Bridge.

The Nigerian Army did, however, release Agu on Friday, but DSS agents re-arrested him.

The veteran actor was reportedly taken to Abuja for questioning by the secret police.

Ozekhome, on the other hand, said that Agu had done no crime that warranted his detention.

He revealed this in a statement headed ‘Chiwetalu Agu Released By DSS,’ which he signed.

Several interactions were held by the chambers with the DSS operatives, who were, however, very civil and very cooperative.

“Agu was released this (Tuesday) evening to Steve Eboh and Monalisa Chinda (Director of Media, Actors Guild of Nigeria), by the DSS at their headquarters in Abuja, after a careful search on his phones showed nothing incriminating,” he said.
