Ohanaeze Demands Intervention From International Community Over Tension In Southeast

Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural group, has urged the world community to persuade President Muhammadu Buhari’s government of the necessity for a conversation over the country’s escalating tensions in the country’s South-East zone.

iexclusive News Nigeria reports that Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the Secretary-General of the Chidi Ibeh-led Ohanaeze Ndigbo, said as much in a statement.

He reiterated his position that the only way to resolve the zone’s heightened insecurity and secessionist unrest is through discussion.

As a result, Isiguzoro has “asked for a new dialogue between the Federal Government and Ndigbo on topics concerning the Biafra agitation and the rationale behind the ideology of Nigeria’s secessionist movements.”

We’re not sure why the federal government is avoiding dialogue and acting like an ostrich.

“We are urging the world community to put pressure on President Muhammadu Buhari to see legitimate grounds for discussion with the Igbo, for peaceful coexistence, and for resolving issues that will restore confidence and ensure security in the Southeast.

“Southeastern Nigeria is going through a difficult period right now. The international world should intervene to ensure that Buhari and Ndigbo may communicate without political interference.

The dialogue should be led by incorruptible Igbo leaders.

“Now is the moment for the United Kingdom, the United States, China, and others to intervene in the issue in Southeastern Nigeria.”

“Ndigbo are prepared to take initiatives that will address the South-security East’s concerns.

The United Kingdom, the United States, and China should pay attention to the reasons of insecurity and violence in the Southeast and persuade President Buhari to meet with Igbo for dialogue.

“Unseen hands are at work in the latest crisis, and they are delighted to see the annihilation of the South-East for the second time since 1970,” he said.
