Nigerians Warn EFCC Over The Arrest Of Obi Cubana

Nigerians Warn EFCC Over The Arrest Of Obi Cubana

Some Nigerians have urged against keeping Obinna Iyiegbu, alias Obi Cubana, a billionaire businessman who was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday.

The Anambra-born club owner was hauled to the EFCC headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, on Monday afternoon and grilled by officers of the agency for alleged money laundering and tax fraud, according to iexclusive News Nigeria.

Concerned Nigerians reacted to the report, which filled social media on Monday night, with many taking to their social media accounts to express their concern over the impact of the move on the November 6 governorship elections in Anambra State.

In July, Obi Cubana grabbed headlines and became the talk of the town when he staged an elaborate burial for his late mother in Oba, Anambra State, where over 200 cows were allegedly slaughtered.

Many Nigerians were intrigued by his ostentatious display of wealth, and many were curious about his source of money. Several celebrities, businessmen and women, as well as politicians, attended the funeral in great numbers.

The prominent socialite went on to become a role model for a number of Nigerian teenagers, including Whitemoney, the winner of Big Brother Naija 2021, who aspired to be as successful as Obi Cubana in business.

Some Nigerians, particularly youngsters who spoke with iexclusivenews on Tuesday morning, believe the arrest will exacerbate the state’s already deteriorating security situation.

Adeyemo Michael, a.k.a. Mr Microphone, an Of Air Personality (OAP) on a famous radio station in Abuja, informed our correspondent that the arrest comes at a time when Obi Cubana’s home country is already tight.

“This is clearly not the moment for this drama,” he remarked. You and I both know how well-liked the businessman is in Anambra State, where he has millions of admirers.

“I’m not sure the governorship race will go on if they don’t free him today.” This is not at all what we anticipate from the federal government at this time.”

Another respondent, Ifeanyi, a spare parts trader in the nation’s capital, claimed that the federal government has only added to the Southeast’s issues.

Despite appeals for President Muhammadu Buhari’s government to release Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, he complained that the government had detained yet another popular and influential person of the region.

“In response to the arrest of our beloved Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who has been held in the custody of the Department of State Services, DSS, for just seeking his right, IPOB members will launch a one-week sit-at-home beginning on Thursday.”

“They have already taken another important son of the soil, and we haven’t even finished Kanu’s.” This demonstrates that the administration is hostile to Igbos,” he remarked.

Meanwhile, Adejor Kenneth, a social media influencer, told our correspondent in a chat that Obi Cubana must be closely monitored, pointing out that his sources of cash are unknown.

Cubana’s ties to the beleaguered Inspector-Intelligence General’s Response Team (IRT), Abba Kyari, who was recently suspended over allegations of corruption, should be examined, according to him.

“Abba Kyari was spending money at Obi Cubana’s mother’s funeral.” Both of them are now in serious problem. Adejor continued, “He needs to be thoroughly probed.”
