Supreme Court Breaks Silence On Invasion Of Justice Odili’s Residence

The Supreme Court of Nigeria has finally responded to the invasion of Justice Mary Odili’s home by unknown security officers, calling it as an example of impunity gone too far.

iexclusive News Nigeria reports that the Supreme Court advised that the judiciary should not be misunderstood as the wailing child among the three arms of government by any individual or government entity.

In a statement issued by its Director of Press and Information, Akande Festus, the Supreme Court said the attack was an uncivilized and disgusting display of barbaric force on an innocent judicial officer.

“We are alarmed by the news of the unwarranted and despicable raid on the official residence of one of our senior justices in the Supreme Court, Hon. Justice Mary Peter Odili, on Friday, October 29, 2021 in a Gestapo manner,” the statement read.

“Unfortunately, the attack showed a horrific picture of war by some armed individuals presumed to be security officers from several government agencies who appeared to have come to kill and maim their target under the cover of conducting a search whose warrant was dubious and invalid.”

“This uncivilized and disgraceful display of primal force on an innocent judicial officer who has spent several years of her professional life serving the country she considers her own has terribly grieved and taken aback us.”

“This episode brought back the dreadful recollection of the October 2016 midnight invasion of our respected justices’ houses, with no convincing answers as to the underlying intent behind such a bold assault on our collective sensibilities.”

“We want to be clear: the Nigerian judiciary is the third branch of government in the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and it should be respected and treated as such.”

“This fusillade of unlawful and unprovoked attacks against our judicial officers and even facilities across the country has had its fill, and we declare loudly now that enough is enough.”

“The judiciary should never be misunderstood by any individual or government entity as the wailing child among the three branches of government that must always be reprimanded and humiliated into quiet due to our conservative disposition.”

“We are not lying tow on this inhuman abuse meted out to one of our own, notwithstanding the discordant songs from the many security forces that reportedly participated in the terrible deed.”

“We have launched a full-scale independent investigation into the genuine masquerades behind the mystery as well as the true motives behind the entire saga.”

“Similarly, we urge the Inspector General of Police of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to rise to the occasion by conducting a discreet investigation and making his findings public in order to bring the offenders to justice as soon as possible.”

The Nigerian judiciary has the ability to not only bark but also bite. Disdain and levity will no longer be tolerated.

The rule of law and legality must guide our actions in order for us to be regarded seriously by the international community.
