Why Ferran Torres Left Manchester City For Barcelona

Why Ferran Torres Left Manchester City For Barcelona

Ferran Torres chose to leave Manchester City for Barcelona for two reasons.

Ferran Torres joined Manchester City from Valencia in the summer of 2020. It was a big risk – he’d risen to prominence at Valencia and would have to prove himself all over again in the Premier League.

The youngster settled in quickly at the Etihad Stadium, but he struggled to break into Pep Guardiola’s team and start on a regular basis, according to Diario AS.

Despite this, he scored 13 goals in his debut season at City, the most of any player’s debut season at the club since Guardiola took over in the summer of 2016.

Sergio Aguero taught Ferran how to be a centre-forward, and Phil Foden used to train with him, and he began a language exchange with Raheem Sterling.

Ferran Torres won the Premier League and the League Cup in his first season with City before becoming one of Luis Enrique’s most important players for Spain at Euro 2020.

But, because of covid-19, he missed his family and friends in England and was unable to fully enjoy life in Manchester.

In the summer, City made a strong push to sign Harry Kane, which would have pushed Ferran further down the pecking order.

Ferran had a strong start to the season before suffering an injury while representing Spain in the Nations League in October.

That was around the time when Barcelona arrived on the scene. They could provide Ferran with something City couldn’t: a prominent role in a growing team, back in Spain, no less. It was an enticing vision.
