Obi Cubana May Be A ‘Drug Lord’ – Reports

Obi Cubana, Thursday was interrogated by The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for his alleged involvement in the illegal narcotics business.

iexclusive News Nigeria reports that, Iyiegbu, the Chairman of the Cubana group of enterprises, was interrogated for almost 5 hours at the NDLEA headquarters in Abuja before being given bail and instructed to return at a later date.

This online news outlet gathered that 3 convicted drug dealers from Malaysia, Nigeria, and India deposited suspicious payments into Cubana’s account, according to reliable sources.

NDLEA and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have now expanded their investigation into Cubana and his business network on the suspicion that he is involved in the narcotics trade.

“Obi Cubana came to the NDLEA office about 9 a.m. and spent many hours answering questions before being granted bail at 2 p.m. He may be a drug lord, according to reports. Money was deposited into his account by several convicted narcotics dealers.

Three of these payments have been established.” One of the people who paid money into his account was convicted in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; another was convicted in New Delhi, India; and a third was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos and convicted in 2017, all of whom paid money into Cubana’s account,” according to a source.

The socialite was given permission to return home in order to gather documents for presentation to the NDLEA.

Last July, Cubana, who has been in the nightclub business since 2006, made international news when he organized a grandiose funeral for his mother, Ezinne Iyiegbu, in Oba, Anambra State’s Idemili South local government area.

Several artists and well-known politicians from throughout the country attended the event, including Abba Kyari, the embattled Nigerian super policeman. Davido, D’banj, Kcee, Poco Lee, and Ubi Franklin were among the other performers at the event. Kanayo O. Kanayo, Alex Ekubo, and Williams Uchemba were among the Nollywood stars and early callers on the guest list.

The showy display of wealth, as indicated by the giving of roughly 400 cows to Cubana and the ‘naira rain,’ was the event’s centerpiece.

Cubana’s friends sprayed him with bundles of new naira notes in an apparent attempt to outdo one another.

Two visitors were shown in one of the viral films having a fun cash battle, throwing wads of money at each other while other guests chuckled.

Wads of N50,000 are tossed at Cubana in another viral video, which he juggles like a football.

As it trended on social media for several months, the event became the most talked about party of 2021.

Following the funeral, Cubana continued to flaunt his wealth by publishing photos of his private jet excursions to exotic destinations.

As his celebrity grew, he was honored by a number of dignitaries. In October of last year, he was a visitor at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre for the introduction of Col. Chukwu Obasi’s book, “Leadership Principles for Junior Commanders in the Military.”

Late last year, he also erected a church in his hometown, The Good Shepherd Anglican Church.

When asked about the source of his income, Cubana informed the BBC that he arrived in Abuja in 1999 for his National Youth Service Corps program and served in the National Assembly.

He claimed to have entered the real estate sector and obtained a contract to furnish homes. The celebrity went on to say that he acquired a job with the Pipelines and Product Marketing Company before moving into the hospitality industry, where he has made billions of naira.

Since then, the 46-year-old has opened Cubana Club locations in five states: Imo, Lagos, Rivers, Enugu, and Abuja. His explanation, however, did not satisfy the authorities.

Cubana, who had previously kept a low profile, was subsequently investigated by the Nigerian government.

He was detained for three days by the EFCC in November 2021 as part of investigations into alleged money laundering, tax fraud, and other financial offences before being released on the condition that he return for questioning.

Pascal Okechukwu, also known as Cubana Chief Priest, and Emeka Okonkwo nicknamed E-Money, the Chairman of the Five Star Group, are among the socialite’s acquaintances who have been questioned by the government for their extravagant lifestyle.

iexclusive News Nigeria reports that when The PUNCH inquired about the NDLEA’s spokesman, Mr. Femi Babafemi, on Thursday, he declined to respond.

However iexclusivenews also gathered that an aide to the socialite, Chioma Nwachukwu, refused to comment on the matter.

“There is no comment on the matter now,” she simply said.
