Femi Gbajabiamila: The Probe Of Aregbesola Has Nothing To Do With Tinubu
Femi Gbajabiamila, Speaker of the House of Representatives has insisted that the resolution to investigate the state of Nigerian Correctional Service under the Minister of Interior Rauf Aregbesola has nothing to do with the leader of the All Progressives Congress Bola Tinubu.
iexclusivenews had reported that the lower chamber of the national assembly decided after a motion under matters of national importance sponsored by House Minority Leader, Mr. Ndudi Elumelu, was adopted at the plenary presided by Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila on Wednesday, February 16.
The House minority leader noted that the NCS has not lived up to expectations despite the enactment of the Nigeria Correctional Service Act 2019.
Which prioritized the welfare of its officers and men in line with international best practices, alleged that despite the increase in budgetary allocations to the Nigerian Correctional Service to drive its renewed mandate.
The tempo and quality of the Service have remained the same if not retrogressing.
The Delta-born lawmaker also claimed that the working conditions of Staff and inmates’ welfare have deteriorated notwithstanding the over N165Billion budget allocations to the Service in the last two years.
However, other Nigerians were quick to point out that the investigation comes just days after Aregbesola openly chastised his longstanding political allies Bola Tinubu, the former Lagos State governor and APC national leader, Bisi Akande, and Gboyega Oyetola, the current Governor of Osun state.
In response to a point of privilege raised by a representative, Onofiok Luke, who was outraged by reports that the House’s resolution to investigate the state of the Nigerian Correctional Service was a political move by the Speaker against the interior minister, Gbajabiamila insisted that it had nothing to do with the feud between the former political allies.
