Nnamdi Kanu: Why Court Denied Nnamdi Kanu Bail As Counsel Reacts

Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has been denied bail by Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

When Kanu was first given bail, the judge said he had to account for his movements for years because he refused to appear in court for his trial.

The court disagreed with the defendant’s claim that he fled the nation when an armed retinue raided his ancestral home in Abia State.

What Aloy Ejimakor Nnamdi Kanu’s Lawyer Is Saying

iexclusivenews reports that Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has been denied bail by an Abuja Federal High Court. Aloy Ejimakor, Special Counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, has reacted.

A recent court order by an Abia State High Court sitting in Umuahia, according to Ejimakor, will have an impact on Justice Binta Nyako’s decision.

iexclusivenews understands that the judgment of the Umuahia-led court is the only foundation on which the Abuja ruling will be implemented, according to counsel.

On Wednesday, Kanu’s bail application was dismissed by Justice Nyako.

Kanu was ordered to explain where he was when he skipped bail in 2017.

“She dismissed the bail motion. But she also decided that Kanu can reapply for release with an explanation of why he did not appear in court in 2017,” Ejimakor responded. This is where the Umuahia decision will be useful.

“The initial bail application (which was denied today) was made before the Umuahia verdict, which impliedly exonerated Kanu from the charge of bail jumping in 2017.”

“Very significant. It’s the only basis upon which the new bail application can proceed.”
