2023 Elections: Labour Party Senatorial Candidate In Enugu East Assassinated

The Labour Party’s candidate for the Enugu East Senatorial District Mr Oyibo Chukwu was assassinated 48 hours before the election on Saturday.

iexclusivenews reports that Mr Chukwu was killed while returning from a campaign rally at Amechi, Awkunanaw local government area of Enugu.

Mr Oyibo Chukwu was assassinated alongside five of his supporters.

The assassins were also said to have burnt him and his supporters who were with him inside his car.

Chijioke Edeoga, the Labour Party’s candidate for governor, confirmed the unfortunate incident. And claimed that political parties who felt threatened by the rise of the Labour Party in the state were assassinating his party members.

Peter Obi, Labour Party Presidential Candidate, hails from South East, which has been a flashpoint, even before the election period.

However, iexclusivenews Nigeria reports that Suspected militants have vowed to cripple election in the region but security forces have assured residents that they are on top of the situation.

The Enugu police command is yet to react to the incident, which Edeoga insists is politically motivated.
