Spare Parts Traders Reject Sanwo-Olu As Thugs Burns Down Spare Parts Market in Lagos
In the early hours of Wednesday, an inferno swept through the Akere Spare Parts Market, Kirikiri Road, and Akere Bus Stop in Olodi-Apapa, Ajegunle, Lagos, destroying property worth millions.
iexclusivenews understands that the unfortunate incident started at about 3:15 am, and despite the efforts of well-meaning people in the neighbourhood and five fire trucks to put out the fire, it still razed down shops.
Although, as of press time, Margaret Adeseye, the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, stated that the cause of the raging inferno was unknown and would be investigated, many social media users have alleged that the incident was a direct attack on the Igbo people living in Lagos.
Esther Igwe, a Twitter user whose family lost their property to the fire, said that the fire incident happened because of the Igbo people’s choice of candidates in the 2023 elections.
“The spare part market was burned down by unknown people during the early hours of today. My family own business too [sic],” she tweeted.
“You can’t intimidate us; it is our civil right to vote for whomever we like, and @GRVlagos is our choice. Stop coming after our business, @jidesanwoolu. The Igbo contribute about 65 per cent to the Lagos IGR.
“Is it by force that Igbo people vote APC? Why coming after our businesses, why the intimidation? What has Igbo done to deserve this wickedness?”
Another Twitter user, @Chude__, blamed the fire outbreak on APC thugs.
However, iexclusivenews gathered that when FIJ called Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State police spokesperson, for comments, he did not answer his calls. At press time, he had not responded to a text sent to him at press time.
