Chief Raymond Dokpesi, PDP Chieftain, Dies at 71

Chief Raymond Dokpesi, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and founder of DAAR Communications plc, has died at the age of 71.

iexclusivenews reports that Dokpesi died on Sunday, May 29, 2023, in an Abuja hospital after suffering a stroke.

He had been managing his health since the recent Ramadan fast and was placed on occupational therapy to improve his daily activities.

Dokpesi was born in 1952 in Ibadan, Oyo State. He studied law at the University of Lagos and worked as a lawyer before entering the media industry.

He founded DAAR Communications in 1992, which owns the African Independent Television (AIT) and Raypower FM.

Dokpesi was a controversial figure, but he was also a successful businessman and media mogul.

He was a close ally of former President Goodluck Jonathan and was accused of corruption by the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Dokpesi is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren.

His death is a major loss to the Nigerian media industry.

PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, said Dokpesi was “a trailblazer in the media industry” who “will be remembered for his contributions to the development of democracy in Nigeria.”

Dokpesi’s death is a major loss to the Nigerian media industry.

He was a successful businessman and media mogul who was also a controversial figure.

His death is a reminder that even the most successful people are not immune to illness and death.
