Elon Musk: I’d Rather Go to Jail Than Censor X Users for the US Government

(iexclusivenews) – Elon Musk in an exclusive interview with Jack Posobiec of Human Events, revealed that he would not bow to the pressure of the US government to censor and silence Americans on his social media platform, X.

Elon Musk said he would rather face imprisonment than violate the free speech rights of his users.

The interview was part of a lively X Spaces session that featured other prominent figures such as Alex Jones, Vivek Ramaswamy, Matt Gaetz, and more.

The Question of Censorship

Posobiec asked Musk about the role of the US government in influencing the censorship policies of social media platforms, especially in light of the Twitter Files, which exposed how Twitter executives were coerced by the FBI and DHS to suppress the Hunter Biden laptop story in 2020.

Posobiec said, “This is really a huge question for X going forward into 2024, because Elon, you’ve said that you want to be working in conjunction within the confines of the law, but the question is if that law is being enforced by the law enforcement agency of the FBI or the DHS and then they come to X and say ‘these posts need to be censored, this information needs to be censored because we’ve determined, whatever it is, how does X make that determination?”

Elon Musk responded that X aims to be “as transparent as possible.”

“Basically we will see everything that is happening on the system and nothing will be hidden, that is the goal.”

The Stand of X

Posobiec pressed on, asking Musk what he would do if the FBI and DHS approached him with requests to censor certain content or users on X, as they did with Twitter in 2020.

Musk said that he would not comply with such requests, and that he would be willing to sacrifice his own freedom for the sake of his users.

“We will be as transparent as possible,” he said, “and frankly if I think a government agency is breaking the law in their demands in the platform I would be prepared to go to prison personally if I think they are the ones breaking the law.”

Elon Musk acquired Twitter and rebranded it as X, with the intention of creating a platform that respects and protects the free speech of its users.

He contrasted his vision with that of the previous Twitter leadership, which consisted of Jack Dorsey and Parag Agrawal, who resigned as CEO after Musk’s takeover.

They were accused of collaborating with the US government to censor and label content as disinformation or misinformation, based on their political agenda.

This was revealed in the Twitter Files, a series of investigative reports by journalist Matt Taibbi, who obtained internal documents and recordings that showed how the FBI led Twitter executives in a “hypothetical” exercise to identify misinformation, using the Hunter Biden laptop as an example.

This happened in September 2020, a month before the New York Post broke the story of the laptop, which contained evidence of Hunter Biden’s shady business dealings and potential influence peddling with foreign entities.

Twitter executives then proceeded to ban the New York Post and anyone who shared the story, claiming it was “Russian disinfo.”
