Updated: Helicopter Crash Kills Access Bank CEO and Family in US

iexclusivenews – Herbert Wigwe, the CEO of Access Holdings, the parent company of Access Bank, was reportedly killed in a helicopter crash along with his wife and sons on Friday night in the U.S.

The crash occurred near the border of California and Nevada, where the Wigwe family was traveling.

Six Passengers, No Survivors

According to The New York Times, the helicopter had six passengers on board, including the Wigwe family.

The helicopter, a Eurocopter EC130, crashed around 10 p.m. local time near Nipton, a small town about 60 miles south of Las Vegas.

The cause of the crash is still unknown and under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board (N.T.S.B.) and the Federal Aviation Administration (F.A.A.).

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department received a report of the downed aircraft at 10:12 p.m. local time, said Mara Rodriguez, a spokesperson for the department.

She said the crash site was east of Interstate 15, near Halloran Springs Road. No survivors have been found as of the time of this report.

Access Holdings Mourns Loss of Leader

Access Holdings, the owners of Access Bank, one of the largest banks in Nigeria, have not officially confirmed the death of Mr. Wigwe as of the time of this report.

However, sources close to the banker told PREMIUM TIMES that he and his family were among the passengers in the helicopter.

Mr. Wigwe was a prominent and respected figure in the Nigerian banking sector.

He led Access Bank to become one of the most profitable and innovative banks in the country.

He was also known for his philanthropic and social initiatives, such as supporting education, health, and entrepreneurship.

The news of his death has shocked and saddened many Nigerians, especially his colleagues, customers, and friends.
