The association’s plea, voiced on Wednesday, is for the establishment of educational institutions dedicated to teaching traditional religious knowledge as a core subject.

Fayemi Fakayode’s Vision for Cultural Continuity

Fayemi Fakayode, the Secretary of the Oyo State branch of the association, spearheaded this initiative in Ibadan, the state’s capital.

Fakayode’s vision is clear: to integrate traditional religious knowledge into the primary and secondary school curricula, akin to the inclusion of Islamic and Christian Religious Knowledge.

This move, he believes, is crucial for the younger generation to gain a deep understanding of their Yoruba heritage.

Dispel Misconceptions Through Education

Fakayode, who also founded Olodumare’s Temple of Light International, emphasized the urgency of rectifying the miseducation surrounding African origins and cultural practices.

He pointed out that misconceptions have led to a skewed perception of traditional Yoruba religion.

A Cultural Renaissance Through Learning

During the ceremonial installation of two Brazilians into Yoruba religious titles, Fakayode reiterated the necessity for TRK (Traditional Religious Knowledge) to be part of the educational framework.

He envisions a future where the youth are not only informed about their ancestral beliefs but are also instilled with a sense of patriotism and respect for their lineage.

A Unified Effort for Educational Reform

The secretary calls upon traditionalists to take proactive steps in introducing TRK into the educational system.

He urges the Federal and State Governments to support this initiative by officially incorporating TRK into the school syllabus and curriculum.

With TRK in place, Fakayode asserts, the younger generations will learn about their religion, culture, tradition, and history authentically, rather than through the lens of foreign influences or other religions that may misrepresent their ancestral faith.
