Maersk CEO Denies $600 Million Nigeria Investment Deal

iexclusivenews – The CEO of Maersk, Robert Maersk Uggla, has refuted claims of a $600 million investment deal with the Nigerian government.

This comes after a statement from President Bola Tinubu’s aide, Ajuri Ngelale, suggesting that such a deal had been secured.

The supposed agreement was meant to expand seaport infrastructure.

However, Maersk clarified that no such deal exists and they are unable to comment on any ongoing investment talks.

Meeting at the World Economic Forum

Mr Maersk met Mr Tinubu at a special session of the World Economic Forum in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia,

Maersk met with President Tinubu at the World Economic Forum in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where the Nigerian leader requested support for his administration’s $1 billion investment in seaport reconstruction.

The meeting led to the false claim of a $600 million investment deal.

Maersk’s Commitment to Nigeria

Despite the denial of the investment deal, Maersk has been present in Nigeria for 35 years and remains committed to developing opportunities for growth in the port sector and local businesses.

They emphasized the importance of having an ongoing dialogue with the administration but clarified that they cannot comment on any investment talks.

Pattern of False Claims

This incident marks the latest in a trend of the Nigerian government making false claims about securing agreements with foreign entities.

Last September, the State House announced that Dubai had lifted a visa ban on Nigerians, but this turned out to be false. Seven months later, Nigerians are still restricted from entering Dubai.
