Lawyers Petition UN, UK, Seek Visa Ban For EFCC Chairman
ABUJA, iexclusivenews – In a bold move to uphold judicial integrity, a coalition of Nigerian lawyers has called upon international bodies to impose a visa ban on the EFCC Chairman, Olanipekun Olukoyede.
This request was made public during a press briefing in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja.
The group of legal professionals alleges that Mr. Olukoyede has consistently ignored court orders and violated the constitutional rights of citizens, particularly in the case involving Kogi State’s former governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello.
The lawyers, led by Mr. Emmanuel Agada, assert that the EFCC’s actions under Mr. Olukoyede’s leadership undermine the rule of law and could potentially tarnish the reputation of the current administration.

The lawyers have reached out to the United Nations High Commission For Human Rights, the embassies of the United States and the United Kingdom in Nigeria, and the European Union.
They urge these entities to scrutinize the EFCC Chairman’s actions and promote adherence to judicial processes.
The statement released by the lawyers emphasizes their commitment to a judiciary that operates independently and transparently.
They warn that continued disregard for legal processes by the EFCC could lead to a cessation of international funding and support, pending a return to constitutional compliance.
The lawyers highlight the role of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in supporting human rights initiatives globally.
They advocate for OHCHR’s intervention to reinforce Nigeria’s institutions and protect the rights and dignity of its citizens.
The group’s ultimate goal is to foster respect for the judiciary and ensure that institutions are not swayed by political or social pressures.
They call on Nigerians to make tough decisions to improve the nation and prevent the corruption of its foundational systems.
This proactive stance by the legal community underscores the importance of maintaining checks and balances within the government and its agencies, ensuring that justice prevails without fear or favor.
