50 Dead As Plane Carrying 96 Soldiers Crashes

On Sunday, a Philippine Air Force plane crashed in the southern Philippines, killing 50 people.

iexclusive News Nigeria reports that the country’s greatest military air accident in decades occurred when a C-130 military plane hauling troops from Cagayan de Oro, Mindanao, to Sulu province missed the runway on the island of Jolo, according to CNN.

According to Armed Forces Chief Cirilito Sobejana, the plane carrying 96 military personnel and crew crashed into nearby Patikul village on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. local time.

“Troops and civilian volunteers raced to the accident scene minutes after it occurred to conduct search and rescue operations.

According to a news release issued by Joint Task Force Sulu, “a number of soldiers were spotted jumping out of the aircraft before it impacted the ground, sparing them from the explosion produced by the crash.”

All victims have already been identified. According to Maj. Gen. Edgard Arevalo, a military spokesman, 47 army troops died in the crash, while 49 survived and are being treated in hospitals.

According to Arevalo, three individuals were murdered and four were injured on the ground.

He went on to say that the men aboard the airplane were recent grads who had recently finished military training.

An investigation team arrived on Monday to search for the plane’s flight data recorder and determine what caused the tragedy.

This online news outlet reported a similar disaster that occurred recently in Nigeria, killing the country’s top military commanders, including the Chief of Army Staff.
