Former Germany midfielder Dietmar Hamann has called Cristiano Ronaldo a “fool” for his audacious piece of skill in Portugal’s 4-2 loss in Munich on Saturday.

iexclusive News Nigeria report that Ronaldo, who scored the game’s first goal with his third of the tournament, was clearly in a good mood early on.

He finished off an excellent counter-attack to put Portugal up 1-0 before things went wrong.

And, before the Germans evened the score, Ronaldo was content to show off with a piece of artistry that had Antonio Rudiger perplexed.

Ronaldo motioned as if he was going to catch the ball before flicking it to a teammate with a no-look pass.

Social media was divided on the moment, with some praising it and others pointing out that Ronaldo’s team was ultimately defeated.

Hamann certainly agreed with the latter, claiming that his actions may have spurred the Germans on.

“I think it’s nonsense,” he told RTE. He flicks the ball over, pretends to catch it, back-heels it across, and then looks away.

“Of course it is [amazing], and we know he is capable of doing so. In some ways, I believe he is dismissing the opposition.

“I’m sitting here at 1-0, listening to you all gush about it. He is the best, along with Messi. He now appears to be a fool. The score is 1-0. He does appear to be a fool.

“If you ask the German players what they thought of it, they’ll tell you right now. That would have been obvious to them.

“I promise you, they’ll all say it gave us an extra bit of whatever we needed to change things.

“What is he attempting to accomplish?” Maybe it all started with this [Germany’s comeback].”

Before halftime, Germany had turned the game around, with Portugal putting the ball into their own net twice.

Ruben Dias and Raphael Guerreiro scored first and second, respectively, before Kai Havertz made it 3-1 early in the second half.

On the hour mark, Robin Gosens made it four before Diogo Jota equalized, leaving Group F in a tight race heading into the final games.
