Tearful Serena Williams Is Forced To Withdraw From Wimbledon Due To Injury.
Serena Williams sobbed when she was forced to withdraw in the first set of her Wimbledon first-round match.
Iexclusive news Nigeria reports that the 23-time Grand Slam winner, who is still chasing Margaret Court’s all-time record, played well against world number 100 Aliaksandra Sasnovich on Tuesday evening but had to quit due to a right thigh injury.
The 39-year-old American, who began the match with strapping on her right thigh, broke Sasnovich in the Bulgarian’s second service game, but seemed to roll her ankle while returning a shot.
Serena Williams‘ sorrow and tears were difficult to see as she walked off the court after working so hard to return to action.
‘I’m extremely sad for Serena, she’s a fantastic champion,’ Sasnovich said on court following her shock second-round advancement. ‘I just wish the best for her and the best recovery.’
