Army General Assassinated, Wife Kidnapped in Abuja
Hassan Ahmed, a Nigerian Army Major-General, was assassinated in Abuja.
iexclusive News Nigeria reports that Thursday night, Ahmed, who had just been named director at army headquarters, was shot and killed in the Abaji district of the Federal Capital Territory.
According to a family member, the attackers also abducted his wife.
The couple was reportedly returning from Okene, Kogi State when they were ambushed.
Brig.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, the army’s spokesperson, confirmed Ahmed’s death in a statement.
He added the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Farouk Yahaya has already sent a delegation to the victim’s family to express his condolences.
Members of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), headed by the Deputy National President, Mrs. Stella Omozoje, have also paid a visit to the family to express their condolences Nwachukwu.
”With a sad heart, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Farouk Yahaya, Officers and Soldiers of the Nigerian Army grieve to announce the death of Maj.-Gen. Hassan Ahmed, a former Provost Marshall of the Nigerian Army,” the statement said.
”The tragic event happened yesterday, July 15, 2021, when the senior officer’s car was assaulted by gunmen while traveling along the Lokoja – Abuja route.
”The widow and other bereaved family members were visited by a team from Army Headquarters headed by Chief of Policy and Plans (Army) Maj.-Gen. Anthony Omozoje.
”Members of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), headed by the Deputy National President, Mrs. Stella Omozoje, paid a condolence visit to the family.”
This online news outlet gathered that the remains of the dead senior officer will be interred at the Lungi Barracks Cemetery in Abuja by 10 a.m. on Friday.
The assault occurred only hours after Alhaji Ado Bayero, the Emir of Kano, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to do more to safeguard Nigerians.
