President Buhari To Release Nnamdi Kanu, Sunday Igboho

President Buhari’s decision to free Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and Sunday Igboho, a campaigner for the Yoruba Nation, has been confirmed by Olusegun Bamgbose, National Coordinator of Concerned Advocates for Good Governance, CAGG.

iexclusive News Nigeria reports that he explained that the decision to free Igboho and Nnamdi Kanu is primarily motivated by the general elections in 2023.

The crackdown on IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu and Sunday Igboho, according to Bamgbose, would be lifted shortly.

This online news outlet gathered that on Monday, Bamgbose told the DAILY POST that there are significant underground movements both inside and outside the nation to drop the accusations against them.

“Unbeknownst to many Nigerians, some of President Buhari’s closest friends have forcefully encouraged him to handle their cases prudently in light of the general elections in 2023,” he added.

According to Bamgbose, President Buhari’s friends have advised him that cracking down on the extremely popular agitators could hurt the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) chances in 2023.

“It’s clear from the President Buhari’s body language that he’ll follow their counsel. Another factor is that some Southern governors are privately negotiating soft ground for the agitators,” he said.

“For obvious reasons, they are not making it public. The international community is likewise pressuring them to be released as quickly as possible. To put it another way, both agitators may soon be free, hopefully by the end of the year.

“Some prominent politicians believe that because the electioneering campaign for the 2023 general elections will begin in 2022, it will be best to disclose them this year.

“However, the ongoing violence in the South East is a serious source of concern. The administration appears to be keeping a close eye on happenings in Southeast Asia.

“Igboho will be released to continue his voyage to Germany, and Nnamdi Kanu would be released to the Southeast Governors and Ohaneze, but only on the condition that he returns to Nigeria.

“The plans are fantastic, but the most important thing President Buhari should do is guarantee that all zones in the country are treated equally. He is not to be regarded as representing a clan or region’s interests.

“He was not chosen by a certain portion of the Nigerian population. In whatever form, there cannot be anything like marginalization. He could not have been President of Nigeria based on the votes of his clan or area.

“He received 12 million votes in the 2011 presidential elections, the majority of which came from the North, but he lost to Jonathan. He was elected in 2015 because the South backed him. He should be more patriotic in his attitude to national matters, in other words,” he added.
