Afghan President Steps down As Taliban Take Over Kabul

Taliban fighters stormed Kabul on Sunday, demanding the central government’s unconditional surrender.

iexclusive News Nigeria reports that According to Al Arabiya, Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani would resign in the next hours after the Taliban entered the city boundaries.

Though the extremist organization has stated that it aims to seize the city quietly and without killing civilians, many reports indicate that locals and foreigners are fleeing the city, with people queuing for money at ATMs and helicopters evacuating personnel from the US Embassy.

Farzana Kochai, an Afghan MP in Kabul, told the BBC that there were few options for escape because all planes out of the country were fully booked.

“I’m not sure, they can’t move elsewhere since there’s nowhere else to go. “I checked with several people who are traveling there, out of Kabul, such to India or any other surrounding nations, and the plane may be full,” Mr. Kochai added.

As the United States and other nations began to withdraw their forces from Afghanistan, the terrorist organization made significant gains across the country.

The initial deadline for the full departure of US soldiers from Afghanistan was September 11th, the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

The organization has gained control of the majority of Afghanistan’s southern, northern, and western regions.

Mazar-i- On Saturday, the Taliban captured Sharif, the seat of Balkh province and the largest city in the north, after regional officials and security personnel fled to Uzbekistan for protection.
