Jos Killings: Youths Dump Over 20 Corpses At Plateau Government House

Following an attack on Yelwan Zangam hamlet in the state’s Jos North Local Government Area, more than 20 bodies were dumped at the front entrance of Plateau State Government House in Little Rayfield on Wednesday.

iexclusive News Nigeria reports that hundreds of enraged teenagers staged a protest after a night attack on Yelwan Zangam, an Anaguta-populated village on the outskirts of Jos, the state capital, on Tuesday.

The motives for the night attack, which community leaders believe cost 37 lives, have a variety of explanations.

Families of several of the victims claimed that the attack was carried out by herders, however, Fulani officials in Plateau State refuted this assertion.

Some speculated that the incident was linked to a land dispute between inhabitants of Yelwan Zangam and Yelwan Mista Bow, a neighboring village.

While Plateau State police have verified the incident, they have yet to reveal the exact number of persons slain or the identity of the perpetrator.

Angry teenagers and women, on the other hand, wept and cried out for justice as security officers barred them from entering Plateau’s seat of government on Wednesday.

According to the Daily Trust, residents of Yelwan Zangam transported the victims’ bodies to Plateau Hospital on Wednesday to be deposited in the morgue.

Angry teenagers, on the other hand, attacked the hospital, loaded the bodies into pickup trucks, and drove them less than a kilometer to the State House of Assembly.

Following that, the youngsters took some of the bodies to Little Rayfield, where they were lined up in front of the government building. Men, women, and children are among the victims.

‘Fulani Herders behind attack’

Residents of Yelwan Zangam said that herders attacked their hamlet, killing 37 people and torching numerous homes and cars.

ASP Ubah Gabriel, a spokesman for the Plateau State Police State Command, and Major Ishaku Gaji, a spokesman for Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), both acknowledged the attack but indicated further details would be released later.

Although no official number of victims has been announced as of the time of publishing this article, Yakubu Bagudu, a resident of Yelwan Zangam and the son of the village’s traditional chief, told Daily Trust that they counted 37 bodies.

“Some of the victims were burned at a residence where they were taking refuge in the community leader’s home,” he added. My brother was murdered in the event, yet the community leader is still alive.

“My house and car were also set ablaze. For the time being, the incident is being blamed on Fulani herders.”

Garba Abdullahi Muhammed, the Chairman of the Gan Allah Fulani Development Association of Nigeria (GAFDAN) in Plateau State, refuted the claim, claiming the attack was not carried out by the organization.

“This has been a common charge when a community is attacked,” he added. We are frequently held responsible for any assault, although this is not the case.

“What evidence do you have that the attack was carried out by Fulani?” We condemn the attack and demand that the subject is investigated by security. People might strike under the flag of the Fulani, and the Fulani group will be blamed tomorrow,” he added.

The tragedy in Yelwan Zangam happened ten days after 27 people from Ondo and Ekiti states were slain on Rukuba Road in the same Jos North LGA.

The event generated significant tension in Jos and portions of Bukuru metropolis in Jos South LGA, but security officers and community leaders soon brought the situation under control.
