Okorocha: APC Becomes Northern Party If South Is Denied 2023 Presidency
The All Progressives Congress (APC) would become a northern political party if the country’s southern area is denied the presidency in 2023, according to Rochas Okorocha a former governor of Imo State and Senator representing Imo West.
iexclusivenews Nigeria reports that Okorocha also challenged the South-East area of the country to justify and offer reasons why an Igbo man should be the next President of the country, speaking at an event organized by the Nigerian Union of Journalists, FCT branch.
Okorocha said;
“On the topic of zoning the presidency, I favor the southern governors, and the next region is the South. When President Olusegun Obasanjo took office, we began with the South-West (became the president).
When we got Yar’Adua, we returned to the north.
The South had it with Goodluck Jonathan again, and now the North is having it with the president-elect.
So, why would it be modified now that it’s the southern hemisphere’s turn? It’s the right thing to do. If this isn’t done, APC will revert to being a northern party.”
As he described how he interacted with the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra during his administration.
Okorocha also argued for the inclusion of women in elected offices, saying that it is vital to the country’s development.
The former Governor said;
“When IPOB first formed, they came to Imo State when I was governor, but I listened to them and recognized their problems. They invited me to join them, and I said I’d join if they could persuade me to get another (Biafra nation) passport.
“I could have ordered my soldiers to shoot them like they did in Okigwe and other states, but I didn’t. I had to pay attention in order to understand what they were going through. The Nigerian government should sympathize with the youths in this manner. “Be kind to them.”
