Police Tear-Gas Peter Obi Supporters At Ebonyi Rally

Peter Obi Supporters “The Obi-diets Movements,” organizers of a rally in support of the Labour Party’s Presidential Candidate in the 2023 general elections, were on Saturday tear-gassed by the police in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, in South-East Nigeria.

iexclusivenews reports that members and supporters had gathered near Mile 50 to begin on a rally to mobilize support for their candidate, but they were prevented from entering the streets.

Nwali Ikechukwu, one of the supporters who spoke to Channels Television, stated that some people were harmed when the security agency arrived.

Meanwhile, SP Chris Anyanwu, spokesman for the Ebonyi State Police Command, could not be reached for comment.

In a similar event, supporters of Obi and his running companion, Datti Baba-Ahmed, held a solidarity demonstration on Saturday in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State.Governor Dave Umahi governs Ebonyi, a state controlled by the ruling All Progressives Congress.

However, iexclusivenews Nigeria reports that Umahi stated last week that while the “Peter Obi movement” is based on equality, justice, and fairness, “it may not convert to absolute victory.”

According to the Independent National Electoral Commission, campaigns for next year’s elections will begin on September 28.
