Joselu joins Real Madrid on loan from Espanyol

On Monday, Real Madrid confirmed the loan signing of Spain striker Joselu from relegated Espanyol for the upcoming season.

“Real Madrid and Espanyol have agreed on the loan of Joselu, who will be at the club for next season with a purchase option at the end,” Madrid said in a statement.

The 33-year-old forward has three goals in four appearances for his country and adds depth to Madrid’s attack.

Karim Benzema, Eden Hazard, Marco Asensio, and Mariano Diaz have all left, making room for significant additions.

Joselu, a journeyman striker who has played for ten clubs in Spain, Germany, and England, previously played for Real Madrid B and has made one La Liga appearance for Los Blancos during the 2010-11 season.

Despite Espanyol’s relegation, Joselu finished the season as La Liga’s third top goalscorer with 16, earning him a call-up to the national team squad for the Nations League final four.

The targetman scored a last-minute winner against Italy in the semi-finals and came off the bench again in the final against Croatia on Sunday as Spain won in the Netherlands.
