Tinubu Fires Top Officials of BPE and FCCPC

ABUJA iexclusivenews – In a major shake-up of the federal government agencies, President Bola Tinubu on Monday terminated the appointments of the heads of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) and the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).

The affected officials are Mr. Alexander Ayoola Oko, the Director-General/CEO of BPE, and Mr. Babatunde Irukera, the Executive Vice Chairman and CEO of FCCPC.

Reasons for the Dismissals

According to a statement issued by Mr. Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President, the decision to sack the two chief executive officers was in line with the plans to restructure and reposition critical agencies of the federal government.

The statement said that the aim was to ensure that the rights of Nigerian consumers are protected and that the key institutions that enable economic growth are enhanced.

The statement, which was titled ‘President Tinubu dismisses two chief executive officers’, did not give any specific reasons for the dismissals of Oko and Irukera.

However, it hinted that the President was not satisfied with their performance and expected better results from their successors.

Other Changes in the Government

The sacking of Oko and Irukera came on the heels of another major change in the government, as the President Tinubu suspended the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu, over allegations of misappropriating N585 million.

The suspension was announced earlier on Monday, following widespread public outcry and protests over the alleged fraud.
