Finidi George Exits Super Eagles Amid NFF Turmoil
iexclusivenews – In a move that has sent shockwaves through the Nigerian football community, Finidi George, the esteemed former Ajax winger and coach of Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles, has announced his resignation.
This startling development was first reported by Toyin Ibitoye, a former media officer for the Super Eagles, on X.com.
Behind the Resignation
George’s resignation comes on the heels of a contentious decision by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to appoint a foreign coach to supervise him.
This decision was made despite George’s recent appointment in May and his previous role as assistant to Jose Peseiro for 20 months.

A Tumultuous Tenure
George’s brief tenure as head coach was marred by underwhelming performances in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin.
These results led to his demotion and a significant salary reduction from 15 million Naira to 5 million Naira per month.
Additionally, his chosen assistants are set to be replaced by those of the incoming foreign coach.
In discussions with Sports Minister John Enoh, George voiced his frustrations with the NFF’s lack of support and questioned the commitment of Nigeria’s top players during critical World Cup qualifiers.
His departure raises questions about the future direction of the Super Eagles and the NFF’s management strategies.
