Nigerian Man Sets Guinness World Record with 3-Hour Twerk Marathon

(iexclusivenews) – On January 14, 2024, Babajide Isreal Adebanjo made history in Lagos by twerking for an astonishing 3 hours and 30 minutes, setting a new Guinness World Record.

This remarkable achievement was not just a personal challenge but also a powerful statement to raise awareness about depression.

The Motivation Behind the Record

According to the Guinness World Records (GWR) announcement, Babajide’s attempt was deeply personal.

He aimed to step out of his comfort zone and inspire others dealing with depression worldwide.

“This record attempt was personal to Babajide as it was a way for him to get out of his comfort zone and to raise awareness for anyone suffering from depression all around the world,” GWR stated.

Babajide’s message is clear: no record is too crazy, big, great, or small to achieve.

“There is always space for everyone and their unique attributes,” GWR added, emphasizing the inclusivity of record attempts.

Previous Record Holders

Before Babajide’s feat, the record for the longest twerking duration was held by Elena Sofie Sterlini from Austria, who twerked for 2 hours and 1 minute on January 3, 2023.

Elena’s attempt was also a personal achievement.  The Guinness World Record for the most people twerking simultaneously is held by Big Freedia and the Central City Festival in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA.

On November 15, 2014, 406 people participated in this record-breaking event.

The festival, hosted by the Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard Merchants & Business Association, celebrates the area’s rich cultural traditions and supports local businesses and non-profits.

A Wave of Nigerian Achievements

Babajide’s accomplishment is part of a larger trend of Nigerians setting and breaking world records.

In June 2023, Hilda Baci, known as the Nigerian Jollof Queen, set a new record for the longest cook-a-thon.

Following this, Fola David, a Nigerian doctor and visual artist, surpassed the record for the world’s largest drawing by an individual with his 850 square meter artwork titled “Unity in Diversity“.

Tunde Onakoya’s Chess Marathon

In April, Nigerian chess champion Tunde Onakoya set a new world record for the longest chess marathon.

Originally aiming for 58 hours, Onakoya persevered for a grueling 60 hours in Times Square, New York City.

Babajide Isreal Adebanjo’s twerking marathon is a testament to the power of determination and the importance of raising awareness for mental health issues.

His achievement not only sets a new world record but also inspires others to pursue their unique goals, no matter how unconventional they may seem.
