Tanker Explosion Claims Over 90 Lives in Jigawa

iexclusivenews – A catastrophic tanker explosion in Jigawa’s Majiya village, Taura Local Government Area, has resulted in over 90 fatalities and more than 50 injuries.

The incident occurred around 12:30am on Wednesday when a fuel-laden tanker crashed and ignited a massive explosion.

Tanker Explosion Triggers Tragedy While Scooping Fuel

The tragic event unfolded when a fuel tanker from Port Harcourt en route to Nguru, Yobe State, lost control in Majiya village and overturned.

Villagers, unaware of the imminent danger, began scooping fuel from the overturned vehicle.

Moments later, the fuel ignited, resulting in a devastating fireball that caused severe injuries and fatalities.

The aftermath of the tanker explosion saw the immediate mobilization of emergency services.

DSP Lawal Shiisu Adams, the spokesperson for the Jigawa State Police Command, confirmed the incident and stated that investigations are underway.

He remarked, “Today (Wednesday) a petrol tanker from Port Harcourt going to Nguru in Yobe state reached Majiya village of Taura local government area at around 12:30am. The driver lost control at Majiya and the tanker fell.”

The leaking fuel flooded the village’s gutters and drainages, leading to the fatal explosion.

Casualties and Ongoing Care

As a result of the tanker explosion, 95 individuals have been confirmed dead and 50 others are currently hospitalized, receiving critical medical care.
