Abba Kyari To Be Extradited To U.S. As Malami Grants FBI Request
Attorney-General Abubakar Malami has asked the Federal High Court to seek permission for police chief Abba Kyari to be extradited to the United States immediately.
iexclusivenews reports that Last year, the FBI charged Mr Kyari with conspiring with international fraudster Ramon ‘Hushpuppi’ Abbas to swindle a Qatari businessman of millions of euros.
In 2020, Hushpuppi was extradited to the United States from Dubai.
DCP Kyari first rejected the allegations, but he was later suspended by the police, and a police investigation panel found him guilty.
Abba Kyari was charged with stealing cocaine packages by Nigeria’s anti-narcotics agency, NDLEA, while the case was ongoing.
He has been in the NDLEA’s custody for almost two weeks and is expected to remain there until his trial.
Kyari should be sent to the United States for trial, according to Mr Malami, because his case there was solid and not politically or religiously motivated.
The attorney-general said in the complaint, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/249/2022 and filed directly with the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court’s Abuja Division.
Originally reported by Vanguard, that the request for Mr Kyari’s handover to the FBI was made by the US Embassy in Abuja.
It did not happen right away.It was not immediately clear if dates have been assigned for hearing on the request or how soon it would be granted.
