AFCON 2021: Guess Who’s Super Eagles Talisman Against Sudan

"I believe that if he does well in the tournament, Nigeria will do well as well."

AFCON 2021 – Carl Ikeme, a former Nigerian goalkeeper, has named Super Eagles star Kelechi Iheanacho as Nigeria’s talisman at the ongoing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, in Cameroon.

Ikeme believes the Leicester City forward possesses the qualities to lead Nigeria to victory at the AFCON in 2021.

Iheanacho scored the only goal in Nigeria’s 1-0 victory over Egypt on Tuesday in Garoua.

With the victory over Egypt, Austin Eguavoen’s team now leads Group D with three points.

When asked to name a standout member of the Super Eagles squad, the former Wolves goalkeeper told GOAL: “It is difficult to look past Iheanacho.”

“He will serve as the tournament’s talisman from now on. Obviously, his goal-scoring performance last night attests to this. He’s a standout performer.

“I believe that if he does well in the tournament, Nigeria will do well as well.”

“There was balance in the team, we looked solid at the back with Ndidi in the midfield,” he added. He really marshals the backfield and has good game control.

“And we have Simon and Ihenancho going forward. We have got quality everywhere, we look strong, with some people calling us favourites already, but there are a couple of matches to go.

“Simon is very quick and strong for the game so far, we look strong.”
