Anambra Decides: APGA Maintains Lead, Wins Ihiala Supplementary Election
In the Anambra Decides supplemental governorship election held on Tuesday in Ihiala Local Government Area, the All Progressives Grand Alliance, or APGA, emerged victorious.
iexclusive News Nigeria reports that after being unable to deploy materials to the area on Saturday, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, announced a supplementary election in Ihiala on Sunday, after announcing 20 of the state’s 21 Local Government Areas.
Dr. German Anagbogu of the University of Calabar, who served as the local government’s returning officer, announced the results, saying, “The total number of accredited voters in the region is 12, 298.”
According to him, the All Progressives Congress (APC) received 343 votes, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) received 8,283 votes, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) received 2,485, and the Young Progressives Party (YPP) received 344 votes.
The number of local government areas won by APGA in the election now stands at 19.
However, Anagbogu said that elections could not be held in two localities due to opposition.
“We received reports of resistance in Orsumoghu and Lilu during the electoral process, when INEC deployed to the communities but was unable to enter,” he said.
