Bawa: Why I Can’t Expose Boko Haram Financiers

Abdulrasheed Bawa, Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, said on Thursday that he cannot publicly name people who fund Boko Haram and other terrorism in Nigeria.

iexclusive News Nigeria recall that authorities in the United Arab Emirates named six Nigerians among those funding terrorism earlier this week.

On Channels TV, Mr Bawa was asked about people sponsoring terrorism in Nigeria, and he stated he couldn’t discuss a critical national security subject on national television.

“Will you advise me to go on national television and tell the entire world about sensitive national security issues if you are my adviser?” Mr Bawa asked. “Absolutely not. But I want to reassure you that we are working relentlessly with our sister agencies to guarantee that this country is terrorism-free.”

The Nigerian government committed to make the names of people who fund terrorism in the country public. However, it has not followed through on its pledge.

For more than a decade, the Boko Haram insurgency has ravaged Nigeria’s northeast region. While bandits have been deploying military-grade equipment across the northwest to resist military offensives.

Mr Bawa, who caused a stir earlier this week when he slumped while speaking at a National Identity Management Commission event at the Villa, said he has returned to work after consulting his doctor.

Abdulrasheed Bawa fell during a speech on identity theft and other forms of corruption in Nigeria earlier today in Abuja.

Mr Bawa told Channels TV on Thursday night that he was dizzy while offering his goodwill message during the event and had to leave the stage.

“Of course, I went directly to the hospital, where my doctor confirmed that everything about me is fine, except that I’m a little dehydrated and need to drink a lot of water,” she continued.
