On Tuesday, January 4th, 2022, the Naira appreciated further versus the US dollar, closing at N422.67/$1, down 2.84 percent from N435/$1 on the last trading day of 2021. On the other hand, currency turnover on the official market fell 27.4 percent to $109.07 million on Tuesday.

 

Meanwhile, the naira declined by 0.35 percent on the parallel market on Tuesday, closing at N567/$1 vs N565/$1 at the end of the year. According to data gathered from BDC operators interviewed by Nairametrics, this is the case.

 

The local currency rose on the official market, with the external reserve rebounding after four days of declines to close at $40.55 billion.

 

 While Trading At The Official NAFEX Window

 

On Tuesday, January 4th, 2021, the Investors and Exporters window exchange rate closed at N422.67/$1, a 2.83 percent increase over the previous trading session’s rate of N435/$1.

 

On Tuesday, the opening indicative rate was N426.25/$1, down 5.6 kobo from the previous trading session’s N420.67/$1.

 

During intra-day trading, the highest rate was N443.5/$1 before it settled at N422.67/$1, and it sold for as low as N405/$1 before settling at N422.67/$1.

 

On Tuesday, January 4th, 2022, forex turnover at the official window fell by 27.4% to $109.07 million.

 

According to data tracked by Nairametrics from FMDQ, forex turnover at the I&E window dropped from $150.26 million recorded on Friday 31st December 2021 to $109.07 million on Tuesday 4th January 2021.
